Driving Lessons Throughout Shrewton
We teach students throughout Shrewton, Rollestone, and the surrounding area on Salisbury Plain. Whether you’re on the High Street near St Mary’s Church, in Maddington, or anywhere across this community of 1,800 residents, we collect you from your door.
Many Shrewton students feel nervous about learning to drive, which is completely understandable when you’re starting something new. We focus on building confidence at your pace, starting with familiar village roads before gradually introducing busier conditions as your skills develop naturally. No pressure, no rushing, just steady progress that builds genuine capability.
Shrewton sits about 14 miles from Salisbury test centre, which works out to roughly 30 minutes by road through beautiful Wiltshire countryside. You’ll drive this route twice every lesson, so by test day it feels as automatic and familiar as your daily commute.

Professional Instructors Serving Shrewton
I became an instructor as I loved driving and found a lot of joy in teaching in a previous job. I genuinely love the job and a lot of passion for what I do. Outside of this, you’ll find me in the gym, up a mountain or at the side of a lake, trying to catch some large carp.
I’ve been a driving instructor for over 20 years now — how time flies! I still teach with passion and a sense of fun, because I believe we all learn quicker when we’re enjoying ourselves.
Outside of lessons, I’ve recently discovered a love for gardening (I must be getting old!). I have two grown-up children who are now enjoying their independence behind the wheel, which gives me more time for long walks with my dog — and the occasional well-earned holiday.
Shrewton Driving Lessons FAQs
s 30 minutes to Salisbury too much of my lesson time from Shrewton?
No, because that journey time teaches crucial skills on varied road types. Those 30 minutes each way cover village lanes, the River Till crossing, A-road driving on the A360, and progressively busier conditions. You’re not being transported as a passenger, you’re actively learning throughout the journey. Plus, by test day you’ll know that route so well it completely removes navigation stress.
I'm nervous about driving. Will starting in a village make it harder when I face busier roads?
Actually, the opposite happens in practice. We start with Shrewton’s peaceful village roads precisely because they’re low-pressure and perfect for building fundamental confidence without overwhelming you. Only when you’re comfortable do we gradually introduce busier conditions at a pace that feels manageable. Many students find the rural start much less intimidating than jumping straight into city traffic.
Can you collect me from anywhere in Shrewton?
Yes, literally anywhere that suits you. High Street, Rollestone, Maddington, near the schools, your home, wherever is convenient. We know Shrewton well after years teaching here and we’re completely flexible about pickup points because we understand village life.
Does Salisbury Plain weather affect driving lessons much?
Sometimes, yes. Wind on exposed sections, fog in the Till valley, and winter conditions are more noticeable than in sheltered town areas. We’ll only cancel if conditions are genuinely dangerous, though, because learning in varied weather actually benefits you long-term. Better to experience challenging conditions with an instructor than face them alone after you pass.
Will I get enough variety from a village starting point?
Definitely, more than you’d think. Shrewton covers rural skills brilliantly, the journey to Salisbury builds A-road experience and navigation through varied landscapes, and your practice in the city itself teaches urban driving. You’ll be more comprehensively trained than students who only ever practice in one similar environment. Village location means broader learning, not limited options.
Do you offer automatic lessons?
No — we teach manual lessons only.
Do you teach in the evenings or at weekends?
Yes. We offer weekdays and evenings but we don’t currently offer weekend lessons. Our lessons do fill up fast so they’re all subject to availability.
How long is a lesson?
Lessons are booked in 2‑hour blocks (£85).
What vehicles do you use?
I failed before with another instructor – can you help?
We can’t promise miracles, but we can promise a different approach. Over 150 five-star reviews say we’re pretty good at this. We’ll figure out what went wrong before, work on the specific issues, and get you test-ready properly. Loads of our students have been through failed tests with other instructors and passed with us.
Still Have A Question?
From Shrewton Village to Salisbury Success
Most lessons follow a pattern that works well for village residents who want comprehensive learning. We pick you up in Shrewton, spend about 30 minutes driving to Salisbury while building your road skills through increasingly varied conditions, focus on test-standard practice in the city itself, then make the return journey. That’s an hour of real driving experience plus your Salisbury practice time, which means every lesson delivers serious comprehensive learning.
Shrewton’s location teaches practical skills that matter in the long run. The village roads build confidence with residential driving and narrow lanes, while the A360 route out develops proper A-road technique with faster speeds and different junction types. By the time you take your test, you’ve covered everything from quiet village streets to busy city traffic, which makes you a more capable driver.
The River Till valley setting and Salisbury Plain position mean you’ll handle weather that changes with the landscape. Wind across open downland, morning fog in the valley, and conditions that teach you to adapt your driving to what’s actually happening around you rather than just memorizing procedures. That’s proper preparation for real driving, not just test-passing.
The 30-minute journey each way isn’t wasted because it’s genuine skill-building time on real roads with varied challenges. By test day, that route feels so familiar you barely think about it consciously, which frees your mind for the actual test.

The lessons were really well structured, and he was always happy to go back over anything I wasn’t sure about. Had loads of fun learning to drive and passed first time. Thank you!”
“I had the pleasure of learning to drive with Rich and I could not recommend him enough. From day one he made me feel comfortable and supported. Every lesson was taught incredibly well and with lots of patience. I’m so happy to have passed my test, and it’s all thanks to Rich. If you’re looking for well-paced and fun lessons with highly skilled and friendly instructors, I strongly recommend choosing Passmaster.”
“Rich was amazing through every single driving lesson we had together. I never had much interest in learning to drive previously but he turned something that I always thought I would dread into something I actually looked forward to and fun! Every lesson was planned and straightforward and I learned something new in each one. Rich is so calm and patient which is exactly what you want in an instructor, as well as being a laugh and making you feel at ease. I managed to pass first time with no minors and I owe it all to him, 100% recommend!!”
“I started driving later in life and have heard “horror stories” about driving instructors from my wife and friends over the years and I can hand on heart say how lucky I am that Rich was my driving instructor.
His mixture of honesty, laughter and firmness (when I really needed it) was exactly what I needed and it helped get my over my initial anxieties about driving. Rich got my through every hurdle and yesterday I passed my driving test the first time round, something I genuinely thought was impossible.
I will miss our time in the car and I would recommend Rich and the passmaster school to anyone learning to drive, whether they be younger or (like me) a little older. Worth every penny and found a mate in the process!”
“I couldn’t recommend Rich enough, Due to my situation i needed driving lessons in a short period of time all of which he was able to accommodate working around my busy and complex work schedule.
Instantly i got along with him very well and learning was easily due to his friendly nature and very good teaching styles.
I passed my extended driving test within 3 lessons with which was a true credit to Rich. Each lesson was thoroughly enjoyable and almost a shame i don’t have any more.
Thanks again Rich, it really was a pleasure you teaching me and spending time with you.”
“I loved learning to drive with Rich, i can’t fault him. He always made me feel so comfortable and was patient with me. Passed first time!! His attitude to teaching is brilliant and i loved having a good chatter (when safe of course) as he is so funny. Brilliant at communicating and working to what suits both him and you. Defo recommend!”
“Honestly the best driving instructor i’ve ever had. Rich is really supportive as he is patient, and will take extra care in things to make sure you’re comfortable and safe on your own. I started as not being a fan of roundabouts, Rich helped me through this by talking me through each roundabout in detail and making sure I was happy with them, and now i’m more confident as ever. After 6 months of driving with him I passed first time! Super happy, with the result of great lessons from a fantastic driving instructor, Thank you Rich! :)”
“Rich was a great driving instructor! Always looked forward to my lessons and he was very patient. Also, he was amazing at talking through things if you made any mistakes so you can keep on improving. Would highly recommend to any wanting to learn to drive.”
“Rich is an absolute legend, couldn’t ask for a better instructor. So easy to get along with and is such a supportive and patient person. Passed first time thanks to him, couldn’t have done it without him.”
