Driving Lessons Throughout Longhedge
We provide comprehensive driving instruction throughout Longhedge and the wider Old Sarum area. Whether you’re in one of the newer developments, near the village centre, or anywhere across this growing community, we collect you from your door.
Being just three miles from Salisbury city centre means the journey to the test centre takes only 5-10 minutes, which is brilliant for learners. This proximity gives you more focused practice time in Salisbury itself while still benefiting from learning in your local area first, building confidence before tackling busier city roads.
We focus on teaching nervous learners and understand that starting to drive can feel overwhelming at first. Our patient approach builds your confidence gradually, starting with quieter roads before progressing to more challenging conditions as your skills develop at a pace that feels comfortable.

Your Driving Instructors for Longhedge
I became an instructor as I loved driving and found a lot of joy in teaching in a previous job. I genuinely love the job and a lot of passion for what I do. Outside of this, you’ll find me in the gym, up a mountain or at the side of a lake, trying to catch some large carp.
I’ve been a driving instructor for over 20 years now — how time flies! I still teach with passion and a sense of fun, because I believe we all learn quicker when we’re enjoying ourselves.
Outside of lessons, I’ve recently discovered a love for gardening (I must be getting old!). I have two grown-up children who are now enjoying their independence behind the wheel, which gives me more time for long walks with my dog — and the occasional well-earned holiday.
Longhedge Driving Lessons FAQs
I'm nervous about learning to drive. Can you help me build confidence?
Absolutely, it’s what we do best. We focus on teaching nervous learners and understand how daunting driving can feel initially. We’ll start with quieter roads in Longhedge, building your skills gradually before introducing busier conditions. Many of our most anxious students have successfully passed their tests with our patient, supportive approach.
How much of my lesson will be actual practice versus travelling?
The journey to Salisbury test centre and back takes only 10-20 minutes total because you’re so close. This means the majority of each lesson is focused practice in Salisbury on test-standard roads and manoeuvres. You’re still learning during the short journey, but you get more concentrated practice time than students from further away.
Can you pick me up anywhere in Longhedge?
Yes, we collect from anywhere in Longhedge that’s convenient for you. Just provide your address and we’ll arrange collection from your home. We know the development well and we’re completely flexible about pickup locations.
Is being close to Salisbury an advantage for learning?
Definitely, yes. You get the benefit of learning in a familiar, less busy environment initially, while having quick access to Salisbury for test-standard practice. The short journey means more of your lesson time focuses on building the skills you need to pass, while the route becomes second nature through repetition.
What if I need longer to feel ready than most people?
That’s perfectly normal, particularly for nervous learners. Everyone learns at their own pace and we never pressure you to test before you’re genuinely ready. Taking your test when you’re properly prepared gives you the best chance of passing first time, which saves time and money in the long run.
Do you offer automatic lessons?
No — we teach manual lessons only.
Do you teach in the evenings or at weekends?
Yes. We offer weekdays and evenings but we don’t currently offer weekend lessons. Our lessons do fill up fast so they’re all subject to availability.
How do I book?
How long is a lesson?
Lessons are booked in 2‑hour blocks (£85).
I failed before with another instructor – can you help?
We can’t promise miracles, but we can promise a different approach. Over 150 five-star reviews say we’re pretty good at this. We’ll figure out what went wrong before, work on the specific issues, and get you test-ready properly. Loads of our students have been through failed tests with other instructors and passed with us.

Learning to Drive from Longhedge
Longhedge’s modern road layout provides excellent practice for contemporary residential driving situations. Navigating housing estates, dealing with parked cars, and understanding priority at junctions all become second nature through repeated practice. The area’s newer roads are well-designed and less intimidating for beginners compared to older town centres with their tighter layouts.
Being so close to Salisbury means the journey to the test centre takes just 5-10 minutes each way. This short distance means you spend more of each lesson on focused test preparation in Salisbury itself, practising the exact routes and manoeuvres that appear in the actual test. You’re learning throughout the entire lesson, but the balance favours practical test skills rather than lengthy travel time.
For nervous learners, Longhedge works particularly well because we can start with practice around the development’s quieter roads. Building your confidence with basic vehicle control in familiar surroundings before introducing busier traffic conditions makes the progression feel natural rather than overwhelming at each step.
The proximity to Old Sarum and the A345 means you’ll experience different road types as you develop your skills. From residential areas to faster A-roads, all within a short distance from home, which means comprehensive learning without lengthy journeys.

I miss having my weekly lessons with him and would highly recommend to anyone looking to pass their test with ease and quickly :)”
“I challenge anyone to find a more perfect driving instructor!!!
Rich is genuinely one of the most friendly and interesting people I’ve ever come across, I immediately felt welcome and comfortable sharing a space with him for two hours a week, and I found myself looking forward to my lessons just because I enjoyed our conversations so much.
From the get go he was always patient, able to crack jokes to diffuse stressful situations and his explanations of driving scenarios were so clear and concise it would be impossible not to absorb the information. There was not a single moment I did not trust him with either my safety or my driving education and it was only because of him that I went from zero experience to passing my test first try.
Rich- if you’re reading this I miss you man! I hope life is treating you well and I’ll try my hardest to keep Wednesdays sunny for you x”
“I want to say a massive thank you to Rich from Passmaster! At the beginning I was very nervous about driving and was struggling to get my head round the basics. Rich was extremely patient and took everything at my own pace and was more than happy to answer all questions whilst building up my knowledge and confidence.
Each lesson was tailored to my individual needs, I never felt like I was being rushed and no question was a stupid one! Every lesson was fun and we had a right laugh along the way.
When test day arrived I was very nervous and very much doubted myself, and again Rich made me feel very supported, at complete ease and I am over the moon that I passed this week with no minors which I never thought would be possible!! It has been an absolute pleasure to be taught by Rich and I will miss my Friday mornings, cannot thank Passmaster enough!”
“Rich from Passmaster is an absolute legend, I love this guy. Passed first time all thanks to Rich. Every penny was worth it. He’s so chilled, laid back, and definitely an laugh and all round just and awesome driving instructor. Going to miss him.”
“I can’t recommend Rich highly enough – thanks to him, I passed my driving test first time with only two minors, which I would never have believed possible. I’d had a few different driving instructors before and never got anywhere, and after a nine-year gap I’d lost all confidence in my ability to learn to drive. Rich managed to restore that confidence immediately – he was always really calm and patient and nice, and he was great at easing my nerves about being on the road. He explains everything in such a clear way and he provides lots of fantastic resources to help with understanding. He clearly puts so much thought into his lessons – they were always really well-structured and were tailored to my specific needs, and he was great at identifying my recurring mistakes and understanding the root of each issue and how to resolve it. He was always willing to spend time working through techniques and manoeuvres until I was totally comfortable with them. He is a fantastic teacher – with previous instructors I have felt that I was just being told how to pass a driving test, but with Rich I felt like I was taught how to drive. Thanks so much!”
“My instructor was Richard Langley and I can say that he is absolutely the best driving instructor that I’ve had.
If you are serious about being a good driver and not just passing your test, want structure and genuine thought into your learning process and someone who will pinpoint your weaknesses and help you get past them, go with Rich.
The lessons are two hours when I was doing them, and the test itself will seem remarkably easy in comparison to Rich putting you through your paces. Highly recommended and good choice if you are brand new to driving or you are swapping instructors and just need someone to iron out your weaknesses.
Lastly, I’ll say that Rich made himself available to help me pass on a day that he’d normally have off – the man genuinely cares about his students. Can’t ask for more from a teacher.”
“I started driving later in life and have heard “horror stories” about driving instructors from my wife and friends over the years and I can hand on heart say how lucky I am that Rich was my driving instructor.
His mixture of honesty, laughter and firmness (when I really needed it) was exactly what I needed and it helped get my over my initial anxieties about driving. Rich got my through every hurdle and yesterday I passed my driving test the first time round, something I genuinely thought was impossible.
I will miss our time in the car and I would recommend Rich and the passmaster school to anyone learning to drive, whether they be younger or (like me) a little older. Worth every penny and found a mate in the process!”
“To say that Rich is an amazing driving instructor would be an understatement. He is so thorough in his teaching and never skips over even the smallest of details. The lessons were always planned to perfection, and I never felt like I was learning something way out of my skill level at the time. I know that some of my friends didn’t enjoy learning with their own driving instructors, but with Rich it was the polar opposite. I looked forward to every lesson that I had with him and came out of each wishing it were longer. All of this meant that I felt very confident going into my driving test and passed first go with only two minors. I cannot recommend Rich enough. Thank you for making the whole experience such a fun one, I am already missing our Saturday morning drives.”
“Honestly the best driving instructor i’ve ever had. Rich is really supportive as he is patient, and will take extra care in things to make sure you’re comfortable and safe on your own. I started as not being a fan of roundabouts, Rich helped me through this by talking me through each roundabout in detail and making sure I was happy with them, and now i’m more confident as ever. After 6 months of driving with him I passed first time! Super happy, with the result of great lessons from a fantastic driving instructor, Thank you Rich! :)”
