Driving Lessons Throughout Durrington
We teach students throughout Durrington village, Old Durrington, and everywhere in between. Whether you’re near the Plough Inn, among the lovely cottages in the old village, or anywhere along the Avon Valley, we come to you.
The mix of village roads, the A345 running past, and quick access to the A303 means Durrington students get proper variety in their practice. You’re learning real road skills, not just pottering about locally. Many of our Durrington students start out feeling nervous about driving, which is completely normal. We focus on building confidence at your pace, with no rushing or pressure.
About 20 minutes to Salisbury test centre means most of your lesson time is still focused practice once we get there. By test day, you’ll know the route so well you won’t feel anxious about navigating unfamiliar roads.

Your Driving Instructors for Durrington
I became an instructor as I loved driving and found a lot of joy in teaching in a previous job. I genuinely love the job and a lot of passion for what I do. Outside of this, you’ll find me in the gym, up a mountain or at the side of a lake, trying to catch some large carp.
I’ve been a driving instructor for over 20 years now — how time flies! I still teach with passion and a sense of fun, because I believe we all learn quicker when we’re enjoying ourselves.
Outside of lessons, I’ve recently discovered a love for gardening (I must be getting old!). I have two grown-up children who are now enjoying their independence behind the wheel, which gives me more time for long walks with my dog — and the occasional well-earned holiday.
Durrington Driving Lessons FAQs
Is the drive to Salisbury going to eat up too much lesson time?
No, you’re still learning the entire journey. That’s 40 minutes of real driving practice on proper roads each lesson, which builds experience faster than you’d think. Plus you’ll know the route to the test centre so well that come test day, you’re not navigating somewhere unfamiliar. That familiarity is actually a significant advantage.
Can you pick me up from anywhere in Durrington?
Yes, no problem at all. Village centre, Old Durrington, near the schools, Larkhill direction, wherever works for you. Just tell us where’s convenient and we’ll sort it. We know the area well after years teaching here.
Do you teach in Durrington itself or just drive to Salisbury?
Both, and the balance shifts as you improve. Early lessons often focus on Durrington roads to build confidence in familiar surroundings. As you progress, we spend more time in Salisbury on test-standard practice. You’re never just being driven about as a passenger though, every minute counts as active learning.
I work irregular hours - can you be flexible with lesson times?
Yes! Durrington has loads of people with shift work, commuting patterns, family commitments. We’ll work around your schedule rather than forcing you into slots that don’t fit. Just be upfront about your availability and we’ll sort something.
I'm nervous about driving. Will Old Durrington's narrow roads make that worse?
Actually, they’re brilliant for nervous learners. We start there precisely because they’re quieter and build your confidence with fundamental skills before introducing busier roads. Those narrow lanes teach close control in a low-pressure environment, which then makes wider roads feel easier when you progress to them.
What makes Durrington good for learning compared to other areas?
The variety, really. Old Durrington teaches narrow lane skills, the modern parts cover residential driving, the A345 gives A-road experience, and the A303 nearby offers dual carriageway practice. You get comprehensive training without traveling to different areas. Plus the route to Salisbury becomes so familiar it removes test-day stress.
Do you offer automatic lessons?
No — we teach manual lessons only.
Do you teach in the evenings or at weekends?
Yes. We offer weekdays and evenings but we don’t currently offer weekend lessons. Our lessons do fill up fast so they’re all subject to availability.
How do I book?
How long is a lesson?
Lessons are booked in 2‑hour blocks (£85).
I failed before with another instructor – can you help?
We can’t promise miracles, but we can promise a different approach. Over 150 five-star reviews say we’re pretty good at this. We’ll figure out what went wrong before, work on the specific issues, and get you test-ready properly. Loads of our students have been through failed tests with other instructors and passed with us.

Practice Routes from Durrington
Most lessons follow a pattern that works well for Durrington students. We pick you up in the village, head to Salisbury (about 20 minutes), do the bulk of your focused practice there on test-standard roads, then drive back. That’s 40 minutes of real driving experience plus your practice time in Salisbury, which means every lesson delivers serious learning.
Early on, we’ll also practice locally in Durrington itself. The village roads are perfect for building confidence, the A345 teaches proper A-road skills, and when you’re ready, we’ll use the nearby A303 for dual carriageway experience. Old Durrington’s narrow roads with parked cars teach close-quarters vehicle control that serves you well everywhere.

“Rich is an absolute dream of a driving instructor and led me to passing my test first time.
